Inner and outer ring raceways in angular contact ball bearings are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that these bearings are intended to accommodate combined loads, i.e. radial and axial loads acting at the same time.
As the contact angle increases, so does the axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings. The contact angle is defined as the angle formed by the line connecting the points of contact of the ball and the raceways in the radial plane, along which the combined load is transmitted from one raceway to the next, and the bearing axis.
